Dear Franklin Avenue Families,
We are experiencing a severe low water pressure issue. While our facilities team, in conjunction with the water utility provider, are actively investigating the cause of the issue, there is not enough water pressure to operate the school building therefore we are preparing for an early dismissal. We expect to dismiss at approximately 12 noon. While we remain in school, we have a team of staff members who are escorting students to the Pearl River Public Library to use their bathroom as needed.
We will be using the information provided to us on the FA Elementary Student/Parent Early Dismissal Action Plan to dismiss students. If you did not complete this form, we will follow your child’s normal dismissal procedures. If you need to make a dismissal change, please email your child’s classroom teacher immediately.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Kristin E. Talleyrand, Ed.D.

Dear Franklin Avenue Families,
This year we will recognize the different cultures that make up our Franklin Avenue family in a new way. We are going to ask our students and families to tell us something about their heritage that they feel is special. In support of our theme of belonging, we plan to highlight this information in our school so that students will see their family’s cultural backgrounds celebrated.
We plan to celebrate:
September 15-October 15th - National Hispanic Heritage Month
October - Italian-American Heritage Month, German-American Heritage Month, Polish-American Heritage Month
November - Native American Heritage Month
February - Black History Month
March - Irish-American Heritage Month
April - Arab American Heritage Month
May - Asian American Heritage Month and Haitian American Heritage Month
June - Caribbean- American Heritage Month
We would like to ask families to complete this form (by September 19th) and to share their cultural background and any traditions that are practiced at home with your child. Traditions may include celebrations, dances, food, and languages. We will use the information shared in the form to create a bulletin board honoring the traditions of our families throughout the school year.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call.
Sincerely,
Kristin Talleyrand, Ed.D.

Dear Franklin Avenue Families,
We have had a wonderful start to the 2022-2023 school year. I hope your children have come home excited to share about their learning each day. I have had many opportunities to visit with students in each of our classrooms, at lunch and recess over the first four days of school. During these visits, I have seen our students actively learning, engaging with their classmates, being creative, and just having fun!
Beginning next week, I will begin reading aloud to each class to support our focus, that all of our students have a sense of belonging and connection in our Franklin Avenue family. I am looking forward to introducing our students to A Little Spot of Belonging.

Dear Franklin Avenue Families,
We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our students on Tuesday, September 6th!
As we prepare for the first day of school, I want to share our plans for arrival and dismissal for the 2022-2023 school year.
Our arrival and dismissal plans will remain very similar to last year. Arrival begins at 8:45 a.m. and dismissal for both walkers and bus riders will be at 3:15 pm. Please read the information regarding arrival and dismissal carefully. Additionally, please talk with your children about their arrival and dismissal plans. Detailed arrival and dismissal information is linked here.
Please know in advance that during the first few weeks of school, dismissal routines and bus routes are being learned and adjusted. Sometimes, this can impact bus schedules, and buses may take a little longer than usual to get students home.
If you know your child will be a walker either every day or one or two days a week for the whole year, please complete the PM Walker Form by Friday, September 2nd. If your child will only occasionally be a walker, please send a paper note each day that they will be a walker.
If you have not already done so, please complete the Early Dismissal Action Form, by Friday, September 2nd. This information will be used in the event of an early dismissal due to inclement weather or emergency.
I am so very happy to welcome you all back to Franklin Avenue for the start of our year!
Sincerely,

August 25, 2022
Dear Franklin Avenue Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful, relaxing, and fun summer. We are looking forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday, September 6th! As a school community we know that our students do best in a learning environment that is positive and engaging. This year’s focus is to ensure that all of our students have a sense of belonging and connection in our Franklin Avenue family. Connected students believe their parents, teachers, school staff, and other students in their school care about them and about how well they are learning. Research shows that students who feel a genuine sense of belonging at school are more likely to do well in school, stay in school, and make healthy choices*. I’m looking forward to planning activities throughout the school year to support this theme.
To view your child’s class placement please log onto the Parent Portal. Once logged onto the Parent Portal, you will be prompted to update your contact information, including your phone number, email address, and emergency contacts.
